Helen W,

A complete full mouth rehabilitation

This reconstruction was performed over many months. It was several months just in the planning. Utilising hi tech 3D CT Scans

At no time during treatment did Helen leave our office without teeth to smile and eat with, even though all her own severely diseased teeth had to be removed.

Indeed initially on the day all her own teeth were extracted she had 16 Ankylos titanium implants inserted and a set of plastic temporary teeth fitted onto these implants based on a design matching her sister Jane's teeth.

Of course another person's teeth, even someone closely related, are not necessarily ideally aligned to suit another's face. So this initial design was modified on a secondary plastic template before being duplicated as seven gold reinforced porcelain ceramic hybrid implant retained bridges by Robin Snell at Pyramid Dental Lab, Biggleswade, Beds.

Susan F,

"As a child I was given tetracycline which resulted in permanent staining of my teeth....a fact I have always been self conscious about....

I had the privilege of being treated by Raj whom I trust unequivocally....

The outcome has been unbelievable, my teeth are absolutely stunning and in my opinion I now have that 'perfect smile!' "

'My extreme dental reconstruction'

Russell Lawrence,

I came to see the Dr. Raj about a year ago, having seen a dentist only once in almost a decade.

He correctly described the state of my teeth as 'devastated'.

In fact, I had one tooth left in good condition. The rest were broken, heavily filled, worn down or previously extracted.

Because my grinding teeth were so worn down on one side, I had also caused a misalignment of my jaw.

I was fortunate in that Dr. Raj works closely with another Jaw joint, Implant and Bite specialist Dr. Hap Gill, who was able to re-centre and correct my bite sufficiently to allow Dr. Raj to proceed with the necessary reconstruction work.

This treatment involved my being fitted with a dental splint (which was very similar to wearing a gumshield on my lower jaw).  I wore this at night for about a month to restore my jaw alignment to the required degree. This was quite easy to get used to, in fact after the first few minutes I was completely unaware of it being in place.

After that, the main treatment began with a series of casts and photographs being taken and a design created for my ‘new’ teeth by one of the top laboratories in America.

In essence, I needed a combination of crowns, veneers, bridges and implants to restore my dentition.

This seems quite a daunting prospect but the guy's tackled the treatment piece by piece, one issue at a time.

We agreed that all my old amalgam filings would be removed and replaced with modern white composite.  This was done at the same time as a number of root treatments and extractions that I needed.

At this point, my remaining teeth were now in reasonable condition and they were then prepared by both Dr. Raj and Gill working in tandem, to accept the new veneers, crowns and bridges.

I was then fitted with temporary teeth crafted in my mouth in the same form as the laboratory mock up.  These were fitted over the prepared teeth whilst the finished porcelain teeth were prepared by the laboratory.  Although this felt rather strange for a day or two, they felt quite natural thereafter and I almost forgot that they were only mine for a few weeks.

The final part of the treatment was the removal of the temporaries and the fitting of the new porcelain replacements in one session.  At that point, I walked out with a new smile!

Was this procedure painful?  No more than one expects at a dentist.

How are the new teeth?  They do take little getting used to – I hadn’t had a useful set of teeth for years and had to adjust because the restored teeth were longer than my worn down remnants.

How do they look?  Well, because they replaced everything at the same time, they are beautifully matched in terms of shape, symmetry and colouring.  In part this has a lot to do with the skillfull preparation but also with their choice of only the best laboratories for the creation of my porcelain work.

Three months on, I have completely adapted to my new smile and am generally unaware of this excellent work unless I happen to catch my reflection in a mirror.

After 15 years of smiling into cameras with my lips firmly pressed shut to hide a pretty ugly collection of stumps and broken, filled teeth, I needed to relearn my smile technique!
